October 21, 2005 - First day back at YMCA after an 11 month "break." Standing to transfer is still HARD! (Have not been able to transfer to home furniture since operation. In wheelchair all day.) It took me seven times to stand up and I finally had to grab the handle bar with my right hand and push up on the chair with my left.

Trying to pull left leg over bike to put on pedal without using my hands. Tricky because second tumor really affected that ankle and foot.
  |
Had to grab brace to bend knee and lift right foot. Was able to manage a slow (but steady)15 minutes at level 1. Able to get on/off bike under supervision but w/out assistance. |
Wedged a therapy ball in a pull-up area. Had to transfer and turn around. Got a bit lightheaded doing this but persevered. |
Balance worse than operation and REALLY had to grip metal frame to not fall over. Plus, had to do very, very slowly. |
Lowered body to sit at far back as possible on ball. "Walk" several steps forward so ball able to roll freely, but in a confined space. |

Do several minutes of balance and core exercises before getting too dizzy, grabbing the sides almost all the time. Those were the ONLY two exercises I could do but a GREAT work-out.
