A child walking along the beach one day noticed a man picking up every starfish he came across and flinging it back into the sea. Curious, the child ran to catch up to the stranger and asked why he was doing such a thing. The man replied that the stranded starfish would die without water. The child pointed out that the beach went on very far into the horizon and that there might be millions of starfish that needed help, so what the stranger was doing could not possibly make a big difference. The man gently smiled and looked at the starfish still in his hand. He then tossed it to safety in the waves as he had the others. "It did to that one," he said and continued on his way. --- Anonymous
